The greatest show on earth comes to the screen in this sensational, razzle-dazzle circus epic the New York Herald Tribune called "a glorious tribute to sawdust!" Set at the turn of the century, the story centers on Pop Wonder (Jimmy Durante), his daughter Kitty (Doris Day), his long-suffering fiancee of fourteen years, Lulu (Martha Raye), and Sam Rawlins (Stephen Boyd), the spy who comes to steal Pop's circus and falls in love with Kitty. All four stars shine in thbe lavish and colorful musical numbers featuring the sublime songs of Rodgers and Hart. Doris Day delivers a bouncy version of "This Can't Be Love" while performing as a bareback rider, and also sings "Why Can't I" and "Little Girl Blue." Stephen Boyd croons a romantic version of "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World." And the comedy team of Durante and Raye provides some of the film's most hilarious moments and memorable lines. The breathtaking circus footage was actually directed by the legendary Busby Berkeley. Escape to the circus!
